For those Xbox fans who have been looking at PlayStation 5’s lustrous white design with envy, you might be in luck. It looks as though a white model of the upcoming Xbox Series X could be in the works.
When PlayStation 5’s design was finally revealed (and Sony certainly took their time about it), reactions were divided. It wasn’t long before the snarksters of the Internet set to meme-making, which really isn’t surprising. Not only because that’s what we do on the Internet, but also because the system just lent itself so well to this treatment.
From the shape to the color scheme, PS5 has a very ‘intentionally futuristic’ look about it. It’s the games console that we’d expect to see Tom Cruise noodling about on in a deleted scene from Minority Report. Love it or hate it, though, Sony’s system has a look all its own, a bold departure from the familiar stark black look of the PlayStation brand. If this circulating image of a controller is anything to go by, Xbox Series X might also have a gleaming white option of its own.
As The Verge reports, the above image was posted to Reddit by a user named Wolfy_Wizzardo. The post has since been deleted, as has the Redditor’s account, but not before the user concerned provided some potentially intriguing context.
The report states that the image was taken at the party of a Microsoft worker’s child in Washington state. According to the mysterious Reddit user, the console concerned was also white and “looked more squarish and the Xbox button looked bigger on it.” The dashboard was reportedly very similar to the Xbox One’s, which is in line with everything we know about the system so far.
While this image does appear more plausible than your average leak, this isn’t to say that the controller can be deemed legitimate without any word from Microsoft themselves. If it is, though, what are we looking at here? A special edition of the standard Xbox One X, or perhaps the much-ballyhooed Xbox Lockhart? Again, there’s no telling without confirmation, but there’s one thing we can say: the next generation of consoles are going to be super sleek devices… that will probably show the dirt.
