Suicide Squad had a mixed reception when it was released in cinemas but it was abundantly clear that fans were happy to see the ensemble cast of anti-heroes. The film is set to have a soft reboot next year and this may be relatively timely as leaks a Suicide Squad game have now surfaced. While it is unclear when the game will be released plenty of fans of the characters are becoming excited by the title, particularly after previous Suicide Squad games have been canceled.

The Suicide Squad game is rumored to be being developed by the developer of the Batman Arkham series, Rocksteady Studios. The Batman Arkham series has been critically acclaimed because of its immersive world and superhero mechanics. With that in mind, many will want to see the Suicide Squad in an open-world with plenty of unique character traits and missions.

The leak has originated from fans finding website domains owned by partners of Warner Bros. on Resetera, and many were intrigued by them as they consisted of “SuicideSquadKillTheJusticeLeague.com,” “SuicideSquadGame.com” and “GothamKnightsGame.com.” It is unclear which one of these URLs will be used but a great deal of buzz has surrounded the “Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League” title and it seems “Gotham Knights Game” may be connected to an upcoming Batman game. With the mounting anticipation which is surrounding these URLs, players are hoping the status of the Suicide Squad and Batman game will be clarified at the DC Fandome event in August.

Many will be interested to see how Rocksteady addresses the anti-hero ensemble and whether it will be able to capitalize on the variety of tones that belong to each character. There have previously been calls for a Suicide Squad game and it seems that the key challenge would be managing all the characters who are in the group to make a cohesive experience. With that said, the film adaptation of these comic book characters made it clear that there was a keen audience, and from that perspective, this could be an incredibly successful game for Rocksteady.

Despite rumors that AT&T may sell Warner Bros. Interactive, it seems that developer Rocksteady has some interesting and commercially viable titles for the company. All rumors should be assessed with a degree of skepticism, and with that in mind, many fans will be keen to find out the status of future games, as well as the studios that make them, this August at the DC Fandome event.
