Rockstar is working on a new open-world VR game. GTA Online in VR? Maybe.
Grand Theft Auto 6 still seems to be a long way off. GTA Online is still raking in the dough, so much that even Sony thinks that a remastered/ported version of the game is enough to get gamers excited for the upcoming release of the PlayStation 5.
Your opinion on that reveal might vary, but there’s no denying the appeal of the brand. And we might even be getting a Grand Theft Auto VR game too.
The news comes from LinkedIn, where Rockstar subsidiary Video Games Deluxe has announced that they’re working on a brand new open-world VR game. You might remember these folks from LA Noire: The VR Case Files, the VR port of LA Noire that was released back in 2017. It’s a streamlined and shortened version of LA Noire that includes 7 cases for players to investigate and eventually solve.
LA Noire: The VR Case Files was well-received on by critics, but got mixed reviews on Steam. However, it was successful enough for Video Games Deluxe to make a case for another VR game, which they’re apparently hard at work on as we speak.
They do need a few good candidates to help fill out some holes in their roster, including senior programmers, an engine programmer, and a designer and animator. If you want to apply to work for the Sydney-based company, reach out on LinkedIn.
There’s no details on just what this new game might be other than it’s an open-world title. That’s an ambitious undertaking for a VR game, but one that might be made a lot easier if they were to say take the open world of GTA Online and just port it to VR headsets. Just staying.
And if you’re a GTA Online player eagerly awaiting the PS5, you can get a free million per month on PS Plus just for logging in. That’s a free $1 million every month until the PS5 releases in November. Can’t argue with that.
