Ever since the release of Red Dead Redemption 2 back in 2018, fans have been wondering what’s next from Rockstar Games. As it turns out, a LinkedIn posting from Australian studio Video Games Deluxe may have let the cat out of the bag. It seems as though Rockstar is in the midst of developing an open world virtual reality game.

Video Games Deluxe is the studio that helped Rockstar bring L.A. Noire to VR, and it made an announcement on LinkedIn that confirmed it is working on an AAA open world game for Rockstar that it is currently hiring for. Video Games Deluxe is looking to hire Senior Programmers, an Engine Programmer, a Designer, and an Animator to work on the new game, whatever it may be. Rockstar Games itself has yet to confirm anything about the VR project, so more specific details will have to wait for a later date.

The listing doesn’t make it clear if the Rockstar Games VR project is a completely brand new game or a port. However, it seems more likely that it’s yet another enhanced port of an existing Rockstar Games title. Maybe Red Dead Redemption 2 is coming to VR, though it seems the more likely scenario would be a Grand Theft Auto 5 VR port.

After all, Rockstar has already announced plans to release Grand Theft Auto 5 on PS5 and Xbox Series X, so one way it could spice things up would be to add virtual reality support to the experience. Rumors are that Sony plans on releasing an enhanced PlayStation VR headset for the PS5, so that would make sense. However, nothing about the rumored PlayStation VR 2 has been announced yet in an official capacity.

Then again, maybe Bully is getting a VR port, or one of the other Grand Theft Auto games. Of course, the possibility that Video Games Deluxe is working with Rockstar on a completely brand new game can’t be ruled out either, so fans should certainly keep that in mind.

VR has slowly started coming into its own in the video game industry, with the critically-acclaimed Half-Life: Alyx standing as one of the top-rated video games of 2020 to date. Rockstar throwing its support behind VR would only help it become an even more viable option for game developers, and could very well convince many more users to adopt VR for their gaming setups.
