Sam and Dan Houser, the brothers who founded Rockstar Games, have been named among the UK’s richest people.
Seven years on from Grand Theft Auto V’s initial release and it is still one of the most popular games on the market — a universal truth that was bolstered last week when Epic’s online store crashed after offering the game to PC players free of charge. No wonder two of its creators have been included on The Sunday Times Rich List.
The list is published annually and details the 500 richest people in the UK. Sam and Dan Houser, the brothers who founded Rockstar Games, placed together in 418th. Their combined worth is £310 million, which equates to a little shy of $380 million. The Housers aren’t the highest earning video game developers on the list, though. That honor goes to Melvyn Morris who co-founded Candy Crush Saga.
The Housers have jumped up thirteen places since 2019, increasing their combined worth by £10 million ($12.2 million) during the last twelve months. Giving GTA V away for free might well increase that further, believe it or not. Those who have taken Epic up on the offer will be far more likely to spend that saved money on microtransactions should they partake in GTA V’s extensive online element.
