Rocket League fans might soon be able to take their gameplay on the go without even having to bring their Nintendo Switch. That is if a new rumor turns out to be true.

Thanks to the sleuthing skills over at Gamer’s Digest, it was discovered that Rocket League might eventually be making its way to iOS and Android mobile devices.

A job posting on Rocket League developer Psyonix’s website calls for a new Dev QA Tester role, with qualifications including:

  • “Test the functionality and usability of console or iOS and Android application throughout various development phases” “Solid knowledge of: QA methodologies, terminology, and tools; consoles or multiple mobile hardware platforms and configurations; iOS and Android” “1+ years of mobile game testing experience”

The mentions of iOS, Android, and mobile experience are the biggest factors in hinting at the popular game’s potential move to mobile devices. Couple this with the fact that Psyonix was acquired by Epic Games last year - the same company that successfully released a mobile version of one of gaming’s biggest titles in Fortnite - and you pretty much have a recipe for success for a mobile port of Rocket League. Similar to Fortnite, Rocket League has a relatively simple - if not simpler - premise and control design that could work well on mobile devices. Fans of the controller-based versions may struggle with an all-on-screen button configuration compared to what they’re used to - especially with some of the incredible acrobatic moves that competitive players make - but a mobile version would make Rocket League available to an entirely new audience who might not otherwise play.

Of course, this is all a rumor at this point and can be taken with a grain of salt. The pieces are certainly all in place, though, so it wouldn’t come as a complete surprise if Rocket League were to make its way to iOS and/or Android mobile devices.

For now, players can get their Rocket League fix on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC, while taking part in this month’s Rocket League community takeover.
