There are six different body types that cars can have in Rocket League. Each body type affects each car in different ways, providing them with better height, boost, handling, speed, and other features. It could be said that each body type caters to a specific role or playstyle in this racing game.
Victory in this multiplayer game has more to do with the person behind the controls than the car being used. That being said, that is easier to achieve when the player has a car with a beneficial body type. To help players decide which cars they should be prioritizing, here are the various body types ranked by their overall benefit.
6 Merc
There are only two cars in the entire racing game that use the Merc Body Type. Those cars are the Fortnite Battle Bus and the Merc. The Merc Body Type is relatively new and so far has much to prove. At this time it features a taller hitbox which is good for jump hits and ramming other players, but that’s about the only advantage it has.
It could become a very useful for players who prefer to harass other players or block attempted shots. But it’s not definitively better to other body types. As more cars are released that utilize the Merc Body Type this could easily change, but at the moment it’s rather lackluster.
5 Plank
The Plank is a unique Body Style in that its cars tend to be flat, wide, and very long. This results in a Body Type that caters to spins, flips, and flicks in mid-air. Players skilled with this Body Type are known for pulling off crazy mid-air maneuvers to block the ball or other players. Many of those crazy saves seen on Twitch and YouTube tend to be these types of cars.
Aside from these crazy moments its really not that advantageous. They’re rather short and they have issues turning quickly. The ’16 Batmobile uses the Plank Body Type and is one of the best cars in this multiplayer game, but most of the other Planks aren’t that impressive outside of crazy jumps.
4 Breakout
Breakout cars are the longest and narrowest cars in this multiplayer game. They’re also the second shortest giving them unique dimensions that emphasize acceleration and speed. The namesake car Breakout is great for beginners and great for dribbling and boxing out opponents.
The only reason this Body Type doesn’t rank higher is simply because other cars are better. Breakout cars are multi-functional, but in a way that they don’t really shine at any one thing or even as jack-of-all trades. It’s a great Body Type for solo players but being largely a team-based multiplayer game they will often come up short.
3 Hybrid
Hybrid’s are designed to be middle-ground cars and they do it really well. Where Breakout cars are multi-functional from a solo standpoint the Hybrid is multi-functional for team-play. They are some of the best at turning speed allowing them to quickly chase down other cars or rocket to the other end of the field in a hurry.
The only downside to Hybrid cars is that they’re too good at being able to do a little of everything. If players are on a good team they’ll find themselves the weak link. If the team is bad than being a Hybrid can make the player an adaptable fill-in for multiplayer. It’s not the best Body Type or the worst.
2 Dominus
The Dominus is often considered one of the best cars in the game and for good reason. It’s namesake Body Type is beefy. It’s wide, it’s long, and it has enough height to make it dangerous. This combination gives Dominus types some of the largest surface areas in the game.
Whether it’s bashing other cars, blocking the ball, or dribbling the Dominus types can do it well. They may not always be the fastest cars but they’re great at scoring when passed to, blocking hits, and antagonizing opponents. Players wanting an aggressive and confrontational style of play will do well with Dominus Body Types.
1 Octane
The Octane Body Type is far and away the best in this multiplayer game for the simple fact that the best cars often have this Body Type. The namesake car Octane is frequently chosen in professional tournaments and the Fennec often sees high level play as well.
Both beginners and experts are drawn to this body type for it’s handling, speed, and a large enough body to score and pass. These cars are the ones that get the ball from point a to point b and score most of the points. It also benefits from being the most varied Body Type with the most customizable options. Professional leagues and expert players don’t lie, this is the best Body Type in the game.
