Earlier this month, EA and First Strike Games launched the multiplayer hero-shooter Rocket Arena to mixed reviews. While some Rocket Arena reviews have been more positive than others, even some of the negative ones seem to agree that the game has potential to get much better with time. To coincide with the launch of Season 1, EA has made Rocket Arena free to play, with some caveats.
Those who want to access the Rocket Arena free weekend on Xbox will need to be subscribed to Xbox Live Gold or Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. They will have access to the game until 11:59pm PT on August 2. Those on Steam can play for free from now until 10am PT on August 3. And those with EA Access or Origin Access can download and play the full version for free from today onward. EA Access members will also get access to a new Epic-tier outfit for Mysteen upon downloading the game.
While this isn’t quite the free-to-play Rocket Arena that fans have been pushing for, it’s a big step in that direction. By giving EA Access subscribers full access to Rocket Arena just a couple of weeks after release, it could be a sign that the game may just go completely free-to-play at some point. Rocket Arena’s Battle Pass monetization model seems as though it would benefit greatly from a free-to-play release, but nothing has been announced so far.
In the meantime, EA has released a new Rocket Arena road map so fans have a better idea of when to expect new Season 1 content. As confirmed by the Rocket Arena Season 1 road map, new character Flux has been added to the game, and the Blast in Paradise event will take place from August 12 to August 25. Blast in Paradise will add two new maps to the rotation, in addition to special playlists and other rewards.
And then in September, Rocket Arena fans can expect even more new content. It will start with the Crystal Reef Mythic event, which will provide more lore for the character Amphora as well as add a new Mythic-tier outfit for her to use. Then later, the Runaway Megadon event will kick off, adding yet another new Rocket Arena map, new playlists, and more.
Finally, Rocket Arena will cap off Season 1 with the Fort Rocket Mythic event, which will be about Topnotch. As long as EA is able to develop a dedicated community for the unique multiplayer shooter game, there should be many more Rocket Arena seasons to come.
Rocket Arena is out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
