It’s still a little surreal to know that Robocop is coming to Mortal Kombat 11. When NetherRealm Studios revealed that 2019’s best selling fighting game would be getting a paid expansion, another guest character was the farthest thing from my mind. I also just plain didn’t see officer Murphy entering the fray, mainly because it seemed too good to be true.
Whatever strings publisher WB Games had to pull, it’s definitely been worth it. Fans of the early 90s comic Robocop Vs. Terminator will now be able to live out that fantasy in all of its bloody glory when Aftermath releases next week. To celebrate the occasion, WB has uploaded two new trailers where the robotic combatants trade blows and eviscerate each other.
I’m not sure if I’m sold on Robocop’s moveset as he appears to be rather slow. Terminator suffered from a similar problem, winding up being one of the most disappointing DLC characters in the game. He isn’t exactly a great match for the rest of MK11’s cast, though he could be on even footing with Robocop.
Either way, this is a 90s kids’ dream come true. Mortal Kombat was one of the coolest things in the world back then and Robocop Vs. Terminator was equally as bloody. Meshing all of that into one whole is like combining peanut butter and chocolate: it just works.
