Special editions of Risk always hold a special place in our hearts, and now the Risk: Warhammer 40,000 Edition is on the way from The OP, the game publisher formerly known as Usaopoly. Players will face off on the plant Vigilus during the War of Beasts and select from figurines of either the Ultramarines, Orks, Chaos Space Marines, Aeldari Craftworlds, or Gestealer Cults.
As with most special edition versions of Risk, the original game will be blended with some of the more iconic elements of Warhammer lore to provide specialized, custom gameplay. In this case, players will have Leader tokens for each faction boasting special abilities while deployed units attack and defend, like the bonuses that can be applied in the tabletop version from Games Workshop.
As with all Risk variants, players can choose to play the traditional format towards total domination, or with Warhammer themed objectives the addition of 40 Territory cards, 20 Objective Cards, and 16 Reward cards that shift how players strategize.
Risk: Warhammer 40,000 is suited for 2-5 players ages 10 and up. The current release date aims for this upcoming Fall and is available for pre-order from The OP now. Although no mention is made of potential delays due to Covid-19, it is certainly a possibility that the game may be affected in reaching its launch window.
