Riot Games fixes a major Valorant bug that had the potential to ruin the fun of all of its players. Riot has been carefully monitoring the Valorant beta to see how players are enjoying the game and finding bugs like this so that it can fix any potential issues before the game launches in summer.
On Twitter, Riot has posted a list of Valorant hotfixes for various issues with the game. The biggest fix added in the Valorant update is one that makes Cypher’s camera “less lethal under certain… circumstances.” The circumstances that Riot is talking about can be seen in the videos of Cypher’s camera holding a gun. A bug allowed players to drop a handgun near the character’s camera and use the camera as a lethal weapon. The cameras can fire darts to highlight enemy positions but this exploit allowed them to do damage.
The Valorant hotfix also “fixed audio dropping after consecutive games” and “patched a number of map exploits.” It’s unclear how many players were having the audio issue or what sort of other map exploits players had found. However, those who are in the Valorant beta test will be glad to see that the game has fewer technical issues for them to walk into.
Riot will likely have to keep releasing smaller hotfixes like this as more players join the beta and find technical issues with the game. Millions of people are watching Valorant streams on Twitch for a drop which will allow them to play. The Valorant development team hasn’t confirmed how many people are in the beta but the Twitch figures suggest just how many people want to be part of it.
The development team could also have more work to do once it releases a new Valorant map. Earlier this week, a new Valorant map called Ascent leaked. It’s unclear when this map may be made available and if it will be released before the beta has been completed, but it could give the developers many more exploits that they’ll need to fix.
Valorant players will likely be very happy with how things are going though and it doesn’t seem to have taken Riot very long to release a fix. Creating fixes this quickly will be important for the success of the game and will help Valorant beat other shooters, like Overwatch and many would like to see Riot keep doing that once the game has released.
Valorant will release this summer for PC.
