It’s no secret that Apex Legends’ Revenant has been reduced to pure memelord status. Players normally only select him for fun, and he has a whopping zero percent attendance rate at any major Apex tournament; he’s been playing hooky. Even though it’s hard to blame anyone for dodging the all-talk, no-bite legend – Revenant can actually be pretty underrated.

Normally, people view his abilities as weak and unbecoming of an otherwise aggressive, intimating character. However, his crouch-strafe is incredibly powerful during firefights. Anyone who has fought a strafing, ultimate-juiced Bloodhound knows how hard the legend becomes to track; it’s the same with Revenant – except he doesn’t need an ultimate to strafe at the speed of light.

Additionally, his Silence ability is often used like a grenade. However, it can be much more useful as a vision-obscuring deterrent. Players cannot see through the fiery orb, so you can stay behind it while you crouch-strafe. You can also use it to zone enemies away from you by placing it in a doorway – similar to Wattson fences. His ultimate ability Death Totem seems designed for offense, but is well-suited for banner-retrieval operations. These points are summarized nicely by a particularly goofy Redditor called “u/Edgargle,” who breaks the character down in a half-comedy, half-educational video (language warning).

Our Micky Mouse friend deserves some major props for this video, because people are sleeping a bit too much on Revenant. In addition to the points outlined in the video, he can be used to counter Mirage’s new, powerful passive – which turns himself and allies invisible during the act of resurrection. Revenant’s Silence can reveal invisible characters, as shown by Redditor “u/friarface.”

So why don’t people use the legend very often? Perhaps he’s a bit unlikable because he regularly mocks Loba’s dead parents. Perhaps it’s because he is way too tall. In fact, it’s probably because he is way too tall. When he first released, he had the Low Profile passive effect, which had him take 5% extra damage. This downside coupled with a huge hit-box started him off on the wrong foot with fans. Unfortunately he never recovered, despite Respawn’s attempts to recompense.
