Green Ronin Publishing recently announced the re-release of their 20-year-old classic adventure Death in Freeport, now updated for the 5th edition of the world’s most popular fantasy roleplaying game. The Death in Freeport: 20th Anniversary Edition PDF is now available on the Green Ronin webstore for $7.95.

Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, Green Ronin has been hit with printing, publication, and distribution problems. Death in Freeport is currently only available in PDF form, but there is a print-on-demand option hopefully arriving soon.

However, unlike the original Death in Freeport, this re-release has multiple 21st-century upgrades and improvements made to it. For starters, the re-release has been done in full color, not the line art of the original, and in much the same style as Green Ronin’s other quality products. Second, the print-on-demand adventure book will be professionally bound, and not merely “black-and-white saddle-stitched booklets” of the original.

As expected, the new Freeport adventure has been greatly improved on the inside, with modern 5th edition enhancements made to characters, encounters, and game mechanics. The original four Freeport pre-gen characters (Alaina, Malevir, Rollo, and Thorgrim) have been kept in the adventure, but of course, updated with 5th edition stats and revisions. Additionally, Green Ronin has supplemented these characters with three unique backgrounds (Historian, Privateer, and Street Knife) and four original sub-classes (Alley-rat, Buccaneer, Serpentkin, and the Valor Domain for clerics).

The original Freeport story has been left intact, thankfully. The story was originally written by Chris Pramas, founder and President of Green Ronin Publishing, as well as the designer of the Dragon Age RPG and 2nd Edition Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay. As in the original, the Freeport re-release will set your players/characters in Freeport, known as the City of Adventure, but also as a haven for pirates. The adventure involves the search for a missing scholar, and quickly drops players into a profound and twisted mystery.
