Fans of classic 90s FPS games are in for a treat. Announced earlier this morning, retro shooter Project Warlock will be blasting onto consoles next month. Releasing on June 9 for PS4, June 11 on Switch, and June 12 for Xbox One, the game will bring its Wolfenstein 3D-inspired design to new platforms and shed its PC exclusivity.

Released in 2018, the game is most notable for being created by a 17-year-old designer. The final product was made by a slightly larger indie team, but you can feel the passion oozing out of every frame. This is a really solid shooter that’s well worth putting time into.

Perhaps my favorite aspect of Project Warlock is its distinct soundtrack. Cribbing some motifs from id Software games, each of the game’s 60+ levels has a unique track. It’s kind of ridiculous how levels that can be completed in five minutes have these eight-minute-long prog tracks, but that’s the kind of dedication I appreciate.

The game will be available for $14.99 on consoles, which is slightly more expensive than its $12 price on Steam. Still, you really shouldn’t pass up playing the game if you missed it on PC. It’s an excellent throwback shooter that is probably the best version of Wolfenstein 3D ever made.
