Daedalic Entertainment and indie developer MinMax Games have recently announced new video games for Steam Early Access. Golftopia is a retro-futuristic golf management sim from MinMax scheduled to tee up for Early Access on July 21st. Barotrauma is Daedalic’s 2D space submarine sim available now.
MinMax Games is a 2-person team based in British Columbia, Canada, who brought us Space Pirates and Zombies and Space Pirates and Zombies 2. Golftopia is their latest game that allows players to take a swing at designing, building, and managing their own futuristic golf course. Players can start with a small, mini-golf course and attempt to grow it into a mega-resort in true tycoon fashion. Courses come with visitors and golfers who must be cared for, and greens that must be kept free of weeds. And of course, the actual golfing can be kept fun and engaging by using a variety of on-course devices and gimmicks to keep your golfers driving, or to drive them crazy with zany gameplay mechanics.
Golftopia features an assortment of gadgets and gizmos to use in building and managing a Utopian or dystopian golf course. The terrain tools allow each course to be finely crafted as realistically or unrealistically as desired. Devices such as bumpers, fans, launchers, and teleporters can be set on the courses for visiting golfers to test their skills. As repeat golfers play, they will help improve each course by relating what they liked and disliked. Players can even play their own courses and see first hand how well each course is designed.
Daedalic Entertainment (Machinarium, Tales of Monkey Island) is publishing Barotrauma for the indie dev teams of FakeFish and Undertow Games. Barotrauma gives players command of their own space submarine exploring the dark oceans of Jupiter’s moon Europa. Barotrauma features sci-fi survival horror elements set in 2D single-player and co-op modes, along with a set of fully integrated submarine mod tools.
With Earth no longer habitable, humanity has set out to search for other places to live, and Europa is the current focus for that search. The moon’s surface is frozen solid and inhabitable, but the ocean depths below the ice may hold the promise being looked for. Players command and manage their crew members across multiple sub systems, including weapons, engines, sonar, and nuclear reactors. Players can take on the role of submarine captain, or as any one of the up to 16 players per sub. And all the levels and events in Barotrauma are procedural to ensure every game session is different and challenging.
Golftopia and Barotrauma can be found on their respective Steam pages, and you can find more info on the Golftopia and Barotrauma websites.
