Resident Evil Village offers up an incredibly diverse roster of creepy enemies, from the typical grunts that you encounter all throughout the game to your lesser villains as well as the overarching lords of the village. Resident Evil Village does a fantastic job taking on the regular gothic enemy tropes such as vampires and werewolves while adding in the special Resident Evil magic.
Protagonist Ethan Winters will find himself battling all sorts of creepy denizens through his time exploring castles, graveyards, forests, and factories. Although not every enemy design is wholly unique, players will still find themselves spooked by a majority of the creatures of darkness in Resident Evil Village.
10 Lycans
Lycans, or werewolves, are some of the first truly harrowing foes that Ethan Winters encounters in Resident Evil Village. Lycans are notorious creatures of the night. These monsters were once typical humans, but after being bitten, are now themselves cursed. In the world of Resident Evil Village, these beings are controlled by Karl Heisenberg, one of the lords of the village.
Individually they don’t put up too much of a fight, but should they swarm you in a pack, then it can be hard to fend them all off at once. These Lycans still retain much of their human-like quality, almost like they prowl around, mid-transformation.
9 Moroaica
The Moroaica are Lady Dimitrescu’s experiments gone horribly awry. Essentially the Moroaica are women who were being inflicted with vampirism but instead turned into these creeping nightwalkers. These hideous creatures tend to roam the dark recesses of Castle Dimitrescu, waiting to ambush Ethan once he crosses their path.
The Moroaica feature zombie-like visages, cloaked in darkness, with rags covering much of their body. Encountering these demons can be terrifying for the player because, while slow-moving, they emit a creepy screech that haunts you as they stumble towards you, sword in hand, ready for a fight.
8 The Baby Monster
The Baby Monster is easily one of the most off-putting and ambiguous creatures that Ethan will encounter in Resident Evil Village. A true nightmarish foe, the baby monster can be found deep within Beneviento Mansion. Almost resembling a mixture of a giant slug, a snake, and a fleshy baby, this monster slowly follows Ethan around the mansion.
When a player encounters the baby monster for the first time, true fear sets in. It crawls across the ground leaving a disgusting, viscous material, all the while, emitting a terrible scream. Ethan must run and hide in order to let its terrifying self pass by. Should at any time the monster catch up with Ethan, you can be sure he has met his demise.
7 Samca
The Samca in Resident Evil Village are some of the first enemies you face when exploring Castle Dimitrescu. Resembling a vampire and a gargoyle, they often sit perched on the castle spires and turrets, waiting to fly straight towards Ethan. What makes these enemies so creepy is their unusually long tongues, protruding from their rotted faces.
Samca are basically a flying variation of the traditional ground walker Moroaica creatures. These monsters are formidable because they often attack in groups, lunging at Ethan, one after another. The Samca also make a terrible screeching sound as they dive towards the player.
6 Haulers
The Haulers are shambling zombie-like creatures within the walls of Heisenberg Factory. The Haulers might just be the closest thing that Resident Evil Village comes to traditional Resident Evil zombies. These enemies are the first variant and most basic type of creature created at the factory by Karl Heisenburg.
Haulers are distinctive due to their visors which allow them some cognitive capacity, as well as the hulking weapons they carry around in order to smash the player. These freaky monsters may move slowly but what they lack in speed, they make up for in powerful bashing attacks.
5 Bela, Cassandra, And Daniela
Bela, Cassandra, and Daniela are all “daughters” of Lady Dimitrescu, but not in the blood-tinged traditional sense. These three nightmare creatures were actually the successful creations of Dimitrescu’s experiments. Essentially they are each made up of thousands of tiny insects that swarm and fly around but ultimately conglomerate together to create each of these individuals.
The reason these vampiric women are so creepy and terrifying is because they stalk the player around certain areas of the castle, waiting to lunge at him in order to bite and steal his blood. They move with an erratic and off-putting pace that puts the player in a state of unease and discombobulation.
4 Varcolac
Varcolac is considered a mini-boss within Resident Evil Village and for good reason. Varcolac is a highly evolved Lycan that no longer holds onto human qualities or features. This is a full-on beast and demonic creature. Ethan first encounters this hulking monstrosity in the village.
Despite its size, Varcolac can lunge at great distances, climb on roofs, and attack Ethan with such ferocity and anger. Fortunately though, due to its lumbering size, it cannot enter into buildings. Ethan must resort to tactically hiding and maneuvering through the village in order to take potshots at this beast.
3 Angie The Doll
It’s hard to think of what can be more disturbing or creepy than a sentient, possessed doll. Enter Beneviento Mansion, where Angie the Doll, the creation of Donna Beneviento, makes Ethan’s life extremely miserable. Angie the Doll was created through the sharing of the parasite that Donna Beneviento has taken in. Donna shared this parasitic nightmare with many of the dolls in the mansion.
Despite what the player might initially think, Angie is actually in charge within the harrowing mansion walls. Ethan literally comes face to face with Angie and his only solution is to put her down by stabbing her over and over with a blunt pair of common scissors.
2 Salvatore Moreau
Salvatore Moreau is one of the later game lords that Ethan must face in the location known as Moreau’s Reservoir. Moreau is a Cthulhu-inspired abomination. Not only does he lumber around like a rotting gargoyle, but he also has disgusting fish parts and pustules surrounding much of his body.
All of this isn’t even mentioning the fact that Moreau can turn into a giant, menacing fish monster that can take out Ethan with one gulp should he fall into the reservoir. There is just a slimy and viscous nature to Moreau that makes him utterly unpleasant to look at for an extended period of time.
1 The Old Woman Cultist
The nameless old woman cultist of the village isn’t really an enemy but often comes across as one due to her menacing cackle and cryptic, cursed words. Ethan first encounters this woman early on in the game as he first enters the village. She doesn’t actually pose a real physical threat to the player but it’s very clear her intentions are not pure.
Everything from the way she walks to the walk she carefully chooses her creepy words to the staff she carries around replete with skulls, this cultist is up to no good. You may only encounter her a few times in the game, but rest assured, each time will be enough to give you nightmares.
