Even though Resident Evil Village has a large cast of memorable characters, it can often feel like Lady Dimitrescu hogs all the attention. Her unique design and fashion sense are certainly deserving of praise, but fans should not forget the three other Lords serving under Mother Miranda who Ethan Winter fights during the campaign.
The ten facts about them below help them stand out and prove they have just as much substance as Lady Dimitrescu. Karl Heisenberg, Salvatore Moreau, and Donna Beneviento are great villains and their separate sections in the game are just as creepy and intriguing as going through Dimitrescu’s castle.
10 Heisenberg’s Family Was Once A Part Of The Game
Karl Heisenberg was originally going to be accompanied by his mother and father during the course of Resident Evil Village. Gazing at the game’s concept art reveals his father’s role to be more in line with what Heisenberg does in the final story.
His mother has her brain exposed and was the victim of Karl’s experiments. Even more surprising, Heisenberg was originally a set of twins.
9 Beneviento’s Boss Fight Resembles An Unused RE 4 Concept
Resident Evil 4 went through numerous concepts during its development. One of these, dubbed the “Hook Man” version due to the enemy shown off in an early trailer, showcased more seemingly supernatural elements and hallucinations.
Living dolls were also part of it. This is familiar to the Donna Beneviento boss fight from Resident Evil Village. Just because an idea is unused at first does not mean it is completely wasted.
8 The Actors All Performed In Prior Resident Evil Games
The actors playing the three other lords all played parts in Resident Evil games before Village. Neil Newbon, who plays Heisenberg, plays Nikolai in the Resident Evil 3 remake. Jesse Pimentel, who plays Moreau, is Lucas Baker from Resident Evil 7.
While Donna Beneviento’s actor did not perform in a prior game, the voice of her doll Angie is also the actor who plays Eveline in both Resident Evil 7 and Village. Donna barely has any dialogue and Angie feels like the real boss of the section.
7 Donna’s Reason For Isolation Is Different In English Vs. Japanese
In the English translation of Resident Evil Village, it is said that Donna Beneviento’s personality comes from her scar. However, the Japanese version says the isolation comes from the death of her parents when she was younger.
While both make us sympathetic towards her, the latter is more severe. We’d hate to think of the villagers making her feel like an outcast because of the scar. It is surprising to see such a major difference in localization in a modern game.
6 Heisenberg Is Based On Dr. Frankenstein
Heisenberg is far from the first mad scientist to grace fiction. In fact, the developers took inspiration from gothic science fiction and horror for the character. Reading the description of the concept art within the game reveals Dr. Frankenstein as a major inspiration for the character.
Heisenberg’s experiments are even more sinister and ghastly than simply creating a human from spare body parts. With werewolves and vampires a part of the mix in Resident Evil Village, pretty much all the classic horror is covered.
5 Donna Beneviento Has A Dead Sister
Donna Beneviento had a family before going into seclusion and spending her time with the dolls. Her parents committed suicide tragically, but she also had a sister who suffered a morbid fate.
Bernadette Beneviento was experimented on by Mother Miranda before Donna, but she died as a result. Donna faired better with Cadou affinity, though Mother Miranda still considered her an unworthy vessel for Eveline.
4 Beneviento & Heisenberg Had Models For Character Design
Moreau is bestial even in his human form, so the developers did not hire an actor to use as a model. Beneviento and Heisenberg, however, still look like humans before their transmogrification. Donna Beneviento’s real-life model is Daniela Aiko – an Italian model based in Japan.
Model Joel Hicks is Heisenberg though the character’s clothes and raggedy look make it hard to recognize the model in the game. With graphics so good these days, it only makes sense to base characters’ looks off of real people.
3 Salvatore Moreau Might Have Been A Sailor And A Doctor
Two bits of evidence lead us to believe Moreau was either a doctor or a sailor in his past. Maybe he was both. His nautical-themed tattoos are indicative of life on the high seas. A location in the village labeled Moreau’s Clinic makes us think he also has medical experience.
It is a little hard to believe the latter, considering his personality and low command of language. However, there was a time when all it took to be a doctor was a strong stomach for amputations. If Heisenberg was influenced by Dr. Frankenstein, perhaps this character took notes from Dr. Moreau instead.
2 Donna Beneviento’s Clothes Represent Death; Angie’s Gown Represents Life
Donna Beneviento and Angie’s clothing are purposefully contrasting. Beneviento dresses in all black with a veil over her face like she is attending a funeral. Angie, on the other hand, wears a bridal gown and necessary accouterments.
The two are meant be opposites in this respect. Beneviento is isolated and withdrawn, communicating with people through Angie. It’s almost like Donna does not exist and Angie is the real living being.
1 Moreau Likes Cheese And Romantic Movies
Look at the concept art for Moreau to learn more about what he does in his off time. A picture showcasing him sitting in his cave reveals his love of romantic films and cheese. What makes you feel more pity for him than knowing he watches romantic movies alone?
The latter makes him more relatable. After all, who among us does not love cheese other than the lactose intolerant?
