Even though Resident Evil is classified as a survival horror franchise, it’s a series that’s arguably been best defined by its puzzles. For instance, the original Resident Evil features more puzzle solving and pure exploration than it does action. And the remake of the first game is no different.
Some of the Remake’s puzzles introduce key components long before the resolution is in sight. This is the case with the Emblem in the dining room, as you can acquire it early, but you won’t actually need it until later. Everything you must know about when and how to utilize this item is included in this guide.
Updated January 23, 2022 By Ben Jessey: The Resident Evil Remake includes a litany of puzzles you need to solve. And as the game doesn’t do much hand-holding, it can sometimes be difficult to figure them out. That’s the case for the Emblem puzzle.
The premise of the puzzle is simple as you just need to swap the positions of the two Emblems. Yet, finding both of them and creating the opportunity to switch them is the tricky part. So, we’ve updated our guide by adding more information and clarifying some things. The whole thing is now much easier to follow.
Getting The Dining Room Emblem
Both Chris and Jill can grab the Dining Room Emblem pretty much at the start of the game. However, it’s better to leave it in place until you’ve explored the West Wing of the Mansion and unlocked the door between the Tea Room and Northern Corridor. Make sure to clear out any zombies in the area, as well.
Once you have, head to the Dining Room directly west of the Main Hall entrance. The Emblem will be positioned right above the fireplace behind the head of the table. Interact with the item to take it off its pedestal, leaving a hollow indentation in the wall.
Getting The Gold Emblem
To gain access to the Gold Emblem, you need to play a piano, which requires sheet music.
So, head over to the eastern side of the mansion on the second floor. Go through the Pillar and Attic entry rooms to reach the Small Dining Room. Once you’re there, move the set of shelves on the right side to reveal a secret passage. Inside it is a zombie and the Musical Score you need.
Now you need to return to the Dining Room on the first floor of the western side, cut into the Tea Room, and enter the Bar down the hall. There’s a bookshelf in there which, when moved, reveals another piece of the Musical Score. Combine the two together to get your Sheet Music.
- Controlling Jill - Use the sheet music to interact with the piano to get her to start playing. This will reveal a hidden room in the Bar. Controlling Chris - Try to play the music to trigger Rebecca to come in. You’ll then need to wait for her to study the piece. Head to the Main Hall and run back, and Rebecca will be ready.
Once the room is unlocked, swap the Gold Emblem for the Dining Room one. This will keep you from getting trapped in the secret room.
Using The Gold Emblem
With the Gold Emblem in hand, return to the Dining Room. Walk to where you obtained the Dining Room Emblem and interact with the indentation to place the Gold Emblem inside. This will trigger the Grandfather Clock.
Go over to it to start the Clock Puzzle. You need to get the shorter hand to point at the armor while the other hand is on the helmet. The easy way to do that is to move the Large gear Left twice. Then when you choose to stop turning, the Grandfather Clock will move, allowing you to grab the Shield Key behind it.
