With the Resident Evil 3 remake now out in the wild, rumors have been swirling about what will be in store for the upcoming Resident Evil 8, presumed to be the next game in the series. Official details on Resident Evil 8 remain scarce at the time of this writing, but rumors from reliable sources have given fans at least some idea of what to expect.
Twitter user AestheticGamer, who has accurately leaked Resident Evil news in the past, has made some new claims about Resident Evil 8. Specifically, these claims have to do with the potential Resident Evil 8 main character, who could be Chris Redfield, Resident Evil 7’s Ethan, or someone else entirely.
According to AestheticGamer, the Resident Evil 8 demo that Resident Evil Ambassadors were invited to play recently featured both Chris and Ethan. However, AestheticGamer has since heard that the characters have been “changed.” This could mean redesigns for Chris and Ethan, which would jive with the Chris Redfield redesign rumor from awhile back, but it could also mean that they have been replaced by different characters entirely. AestheticGamer has stressed that they don’t know really what it means, so fans will want to stay tuned for more information on that front.
For those that have been keeping up with the Resident Evil 8 rumors lately, they’re pretty wild. Apparently, Resident Evil 8 will be a big departure for the series so far, combining the first-person view of RE7 with things like armored zombies, occultism, and hallucinations. Rumors have also claimed that the game originated as Resident Evil: Revelations 3 before it was reworked into Resident Evil 8 due to a positive reaction from internal testing.
Whether or not any of this is actually true remains to be seen, but luckily, fans shouldn’t have to wait a terribly long time to find out. Resident Evil 8 is expected out in 2021, with the game originally planned for an E3 2020 reveal, according to the rumors. If that’s true, it’s possible that Resident Evil 8 will still be announced at some point in June, though it’s also possible that the game will instead be announced at a different point in the year instead.
Whatever the case may be, hopefully Capcom has more to share about the future of the Resident Evil franchise sooner rather than later.
