On April 3, Capcom will release Resident Evil 3 on PC, PS4, and Xbox One. No Switch version of the game has been announced so far, and since Resident Evil 2 never came to Switch, it’s safe to say most fans weren’t expecting one. However, new evidence suggests that a Resident Evil 3 Switch port is indeed a possibility.
Dataminers have been busy digging through the Resident Evil 3 remake demo files, and it’s there where they discovered evidence of a Nintendo Switch port for the game. For example, the string of code that talks about which the auto-save feature mentions PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. Elsewhere in the Resident Evil 3 remake demo files, the Nintendo eShop is mentioned, providing further evidence that the upcoming survival-horror game will be coming to the Switch at some point down the line.
While there is certainly a possibility of a Resident Evil 3 Switch port, though, fans shouldn’t get their hopes up. It’s possible that Capcom had planned a Resident Evil 3 Switch port, but decided to scrap it during development. It’s also possible that mention of the Switch and eShop is just an error, so fans should wait for an official announcement from Capcom before they get too excited about the prospect of playing RE3 on the go.
It’s also possible that if Resident Evil 3 does come to the Nintendo Switch that it will be as a cloud game. As some may recall, Capcom has experimented with releasing Switch games through cloud streaming before, launching Resident Evil 7 for Switch through that method. The Resident Evil 7 Switch version is exclusive to Japan, though, so even if it does materialize, it may not make its way to other regions.
Something else to consider when it comes to a possible Resident Evil 3 Switch port is the Resident Evil Resistance multiplayer mode. The Nintendo Switch isn’t exactly known for its bustling online multiplayer community, and so it’s unclear if a Switch version would still support that mode or not.
While it’s possible that Resident Evil 3 will come to the Switch at some point in the future, for now, the game is only confirmed for PC, PS4, and Xbox One. So those that want to play Resident Evil 3 on launch day will have to pick it up for one of those platforms.
