Thanks to the Umbrella Corporation and an outbreak of the t-Virus, Raccoon City is beset by infected zombies and other such monsters, and Jill Valentine is stuck in the middle of the city that she needs to escape.

During Jill’s escape of Raccoon City in Resident Evil 3 Remake, she comes across many different types of infected creature, each more terrifying than the last. Let’s take a look at how these terrifying creatures stack up against each other.

10 Zombies

The most classic of the Resident Evil enemies, zombies are just normal people who have been infected with the t-Virus, they’re not actually the reanimated dead. In any case, zombies are the least scary enemy you can come across during your playthrough.

Zombies can give you a start if they sneak up on you and take a chunk out of your neck, but overall, zombies have been done to death and they just don’t cause the same scares they once did.

9 Licker

Lickers scared us half to death in last year’s Resident Evil 2 Remake. Just when you think you’re safe and let your guard done, you turn a corner and come face to mutated face with one of these grotesque creatures, ready to pounce on your before you can even react.

Mercifully, there’s only one encounter with a Licker in Resident Evil 3 Remake, but it’s still a frightening one. As you’re playing as Carlos during the encounter, and likely better equipped than in the previous game, you can make short work of it.

8 Hunter β

People who have played some of the other games in the Resident Evil franchise may recognize these reptilian creatures. Hunters have appeared in multiple games in the franchise but usually in different forms.

The Hunter β (Beta) looks quite similar to the Hunters from the first Resident Evil, but there are some differences. These Hunters are physically weaker than their predecessors but they move more quickly, and they’re still a frightening sight to come across.

7 Zombie Dogs

The only thing worse than a zombie is a zombie dog. These terrifying canines are featured in almost every game in the franchise, and you get the same sinking feeling in your gut whenever you encounter them.

The zombie dogs appear a few times during your Resident Evil 3 playthrough. They move quick and hit hard, but it’s the very sudden way they appear and charge at you that make them so scary.

6 Hunter γ

Fans who have played the original Resident Evil 3 will have noticed that the Hunter γ (Gamma) underwent quite a drastic makeover that made it even scarier. Originally, these Hunters closely resembled the usual Hunter, but now they’re much more grotesque.

Hunter γ enemies are only found in the sewers, and between their large size and the small tunnels of the sewers, an encounter with one of these elicits claustrophobia very quickly. What makes them even more scary is how they attack by opening their mouth, revealing tentacle-like mandibles, in an attempt to swallow up the player.

5 NE-α Type Zombies

While the normal zombies aren’t all that scary, you’ll sometimes come across a zombie whose head explodes to reveal a parasite with lashing tentacles, and those are very much terrifying.

Zombies become infected with these parasites from the Nemesis injecting the parasite down their throats. These zombies can use their sharp tentacles to either attack of to protect their weak point, making them harder to take down than normal zombies. To make them even scarier, they have a long tentacle that can attack Jill from a distance.

4 Pale Heads

Pale Heads don’t appear often in Resident Evil 3, but when they do, it’s absolutely horrifying. These grotesque looking creatures are as pale as their name implies, and it looks like their skin was stretched and twisted over their bodies, like something out of a nightmare.

If that isn’t scary enough, it’s also difficult to kill Pale Heads because they regenerate from most kinds of injuries. There’s almost nothing as scary as a zombie unflinchingly coming toward you that basically can’t be killed unless you use up precious magnum ammo.

3 Drain Deimos

Most bugs scare a lot people enough as it is, without the thought of combining them with mutated, infected people. But terrifyingly, that’s what you get with the Drain Deimos, a hideous mishmash of a blood-sucking insect and an infected human.

Thankfully, you only have to deal with them in one section of the game, but it’s a very tense section. Making your way through their hive is the stuff of nightmares.

2 Nemesis

Naturally, the namesake of this game is going to be the most terrifying creature in said game. Nemesis is a Tyrant infected similar to Resident Evil 2’s Mr. X, but created by Umbrella Europe.

Nemesis relentlessly hunts after Jill, breaking through walls or diving off buildings, whatever it takes. Sometimes it’s equipped with a flamethrower, and sometimes it’s equipped with a rocket launcher, but whatever the case, all you can do is run.

1 Nemesis (2nd Form)

Just when you thought you had a handle on the Nemesis, it goes and transforms into an even more terrifying form than it already was. Even though it’s technically the same enemy type, it’s so drastically different from its first form it may as well be a different type.

The second form Nemesis takes it more bestial, dog-like in way, and can run easily across the sides of buildings. It’s more ferocious, too, just adding to the terror.
