Raccoon City is populated by a plethora of horrific monsters in the Resident Evil 3 remake. Along with the typical zombies one comes to expect from the series are Hunters, Pale Heads, infected dogs known as Cerberus, and numerous other ghastly abominations.

For anyone having trouble with some of the tougher, more intimidating beasts, the following list will detail the best ways to take out these terrifying enemies. On the “Standard” difficulty mode, most enemies are a cakewalk regardless of the weapon and strategy, but, on “Hardcore,” one has to really know the best ways to dispose of certain powerful enemies lest they waste precious ammunition.

10 Cerberus

Thankfully, the dogs in Resident Evil 3 don’t do anything as dramatically terrifying as jumping through glass unexpectedly, as they did in the premiere title, but their speed and small size make them a pain to kill. Fortunately, they have little health, so a few pistol bullets will put them down. The best advice to give is to not let them get too close and adjust the sensitivity in the options to make sure Jill can adjust her aim fast enough to keep up with them.

9 Hunter Gamma

These big, hulking beasts, first found in the sewers, are slow and take their time when attacking Jill. Keeping one’s distance is easy, but they still take a lot of damage before they go down. The flame rounds from the grenade launcher take them out the fastest. If one is out of those, then a shotgun blast to the leg will expose the weak point in their mouth. After the sewers, you’re mostly in the clear; only one more shows up later in the game.

8 Drain Deimos

Anyone who hates critters will have a hard time turning on the power to the subway in the first part of the game. The segment starts with a Drain Deimos shoving a parasite down Jill’s throat.

Before heading in, make sure to stock up on as much shotgun ammunition as possible. Really, one should not have used the weapon at all before this point, since the Handgun takes care of regular zombies.

7 Pale Heads

Pale Heads are similar to regular zombies, only they are naked and take significantly more damage before going down. If the player cannot avoid them, it is best to use a powerful weapon like the shotgun against them, as using the pistol will simply waste too much ammo. However, because of their slow speed, it is ultimately best to avoid them and save the ammunition for bosses and faster enemies.

6 Nemesis On The Rooftop

The first real boss fight with Nemesis sees the beast chasing Jill with a flamethrower. The player is supposed to shoot the pack on his back until it explodes. Lure it as many times as possible to the electric generator, which does damage and temporarily stuns it.

After the pack explodes, Nemesis still comes for the player, at which point Jill is advised to keep her distance while using all the grenade launcher and shotgun ammo she has.

5 Hunter Beta

These fast and agile beasts have a tough exterior, giving them a lot of health. Acid Rounds from the grenade launcher will melt the armor. If one is out of this particular type of ammunition, then the shotgun is the next best thing. Each hit usually staggers a Hunter Beta or even puts it on its back. They can sometimes kill in one hit, and, when two are attacking at one time, keeping them at bay is vital.

4 Nemesis Infested Zombie

Some zombies have a strange organism on their head which attacks Jill from a distance. The player sees Nemesis put one of these on an undead in one of its first appearances. If one doesn’t have the time to fully dispose of them, take out one of its legs to disable it. Otherwise, it has a glowing weak spot on its head.

They take plenty of punishment before going down, however, so they are best avoided if possible. One particular scene has three of them abruptly show up while heading to an elevator. In this instance, just run straight to avoid the confrontation and quickly leave the room.

3 Second Nemesis Boss Fight

The second boss fight with the creature has it running around on all fours. After Jill hurts it some, Nemesis will start dashing along the side of the surrounding buildings. Save the newly acquired mine r

ounds for these moments. Shoot it on the side of a building in its path to temporarily disable it, giving Jill ample opportunity for some free hits.

2 Nemesis In The Pit

The penultimate boss fight is one of the toughest in the game. Be sure to conserve as much ammo as possible beforehand, especially if playing on “Hardcore” mode. Like with the prior fight, have some Mine rounds at the ready to disable it if it runs along the side of the arena. When it hides behind a tank, shoot the red light on it to make electrocute the boss, further enabling some extra free hits.

1 Nemesis Final Form

The final boss fight is stressful, but it can thankfully be beaten purely with the handgun. Before using the railgun for the first time, pick up all the items to the left and right of Jill. After shooting the monster once, it will sprout glowing growths that Jill has to shoot to disable it in order to start restoring power to the rail gun. Be patient and wait for it to attack, then dodge and carefully aim to score easy hits against the weak spots.
