Throughout Resident Evil 3, Jill picks up various weapons that help her combat the many horrors she faces. Yet, even one of the most skilled protagonists in the series requires more than basic firearms to survive Raccoon City.
Thankfully you can upgrade several guns in the title to improve stats, such as accuracy, firepower, and reload speed. Although, you need specific parts to do so, and they’re hidden throughout the game. This guide has all the information you need to obtain each one. And by doing so, not only will you become more deadly, but you’ll also receive 300 points to spend in the in-game shop.
Red Dot Sight (Handgun)
The first upgrade you’re likely to get your hands on is the red dot sight. This part fits on your G19 Handgun to improve your accuracy with the weapon. At the start of the game, it’s unfortunately locked in a safe. To find it, head to the street where the subway office, drug store, and donut shop are located.
There’s a set of metal stairs in the area that you need to climb. Then go through the hallway to reach the desired room, and the safe is in the back left corner. To find the code for it, head back to the drug store. A poster of the back wall of the place indicates that the code is nine left, three right, and seven left. Use the combination to retrieve the sight.
Tactical Stock (Shotgun)
Getting the tactical stock for your shotgun requires you to do part of the Clock Tower Monument puzzle. You’ve probably seen the contraption as it’s in the station’s save room, and it’s hard to miss.
The colored Jewels you need to activate the machine are hidden inside fancy boxes. One box is in the donut shop save room, the next is inside the supermarket, and the last is within the toy store. Grab two of them and put them into the Monument to get the stock.
Extended Magazine (Handgun)
If you want the extended magazine for your handgun, you have to be a little brave and take on the Nemesis. By doing enough damage to the monster outside of boss battles, he drops various items, including this magazine - it’s one area in which he’s better than Mr. X.
After restoring power, and leaving the spider-filled cave, Nemesis bursts through a wall. The best thing to do is go around him and lead him to the generator around the corner. Shoot it to electrify the giant creature, and then you might need to toss a grenade to finish him off. When you’ve hurt him enough, he’ll drop a crate that houses the desired upgrade.
Moderator (Handgun)
The Nemesis wouldn’t be one of the scariest monsters in the game if he stayed down after one fight. You need to drop him a second time to earn the moderator for the pistol.
Once you complete the subway puzzle and walk back through the donut shot, he’ll be back. This is another good time to fight the monster. In fact, he’s already standing close to a generator. Make sure he’s close enough, then hit it to hurt the beast. And if he remains upright, use grenades or your shotgun. When defeated, the crate he drops contains the moderator.
Semi-Auto Barrel (Shotgun)
To unleash the shotgun’s full potential, you need the semi-auto barrel. Thankfully it’s one of the easiest parts to find.
Simply waltz into Kendo’s gun store (which is a save room) and pick it up from the shelf on your left. The part makes one of the game’s most powerful weapons even more deadly.
Scope (Assault Rifle)
Jill isn’t the only one who can upgrade her guns, as Carlos has parts to find too. The first one is inside the Raccoon City Police Station. Yet to get it, you first need to kill and loot the familiar zombie you meet outside the building.
This action nets you an ID card that you can use to open up certain electronic boxes. One of them is inside the west office on the first floor. It’s impossible to miss when you enter the room as it’s right in front of you. Open it to find the assault rifle scope.
Tactical Grip (Assault Rifle)
Another upgrade for Carlos’ assault rifle is in the courtyard of the hospital. To get there, you first have to head up to the second floor.
Then you want to go down the center hallway and turn right. Keep going until you come to a broken window and jump out of it (make sure it’s the first broken window you see). Once you do, you’ll find the part several steps to your right in a pot.
Dual Magazine (Assault Rifle)
The last upgrade Carlos can collect is the dual magazine, which is one of the simplest things to miss in the game. It’s locked inside of the safe in the nurses’ station.
The combination, however, is in the operations room. A place you can only enter once you’ve got the ID card. The code is on the RE: Lost Items file, and it reads: nine left and three right.
Shell Holder (Shotgun)
This next upgrade takes some explaining as it’s found in the maze-like underground storage area.
At one point, while searching for fuses, you’ll squeeze between some shelves that are covered in yellow tape. After going through them, activate the panel that’s at the bottom of the nearby stairs. This action will bring down a lift behind you. Walk all the way across it to find a storage box on the other side. Inside is the shell holder.
Extended Barrel (MAG)
After finding the fuses in underground storage, you’ll head up to the surveillance room. It’s here where the extended barrel for the Magnum is hidden.
Check around the back of the main console, and in front of the window is another box. Inside this one is a part that makes the Magnum even more powerful. Once you collect it, you can then finish the game with a fully upgraded set of weaponry.
