A remake of Resident Evil 3 would not feel complete without Jill gaining access to the shotgun shortly after beginning the game. Finding the weapon is simple, and the weapon is among the best throughout the game for dealing with bioweapons that get to close and becomes even more effective after finding its upgrade components.
To find the shotgun, head to the Subway Office to first get the Bolt Cutter. Near the back of the Office players need to use the Firehose to extinguish the alleyway blaze and gain access to the tool room located adjacent to the garage. Inside is the Bolt Cutter needed. Use these back inside the Subway Office to access the gun case where the shotgun awaits.
As mentioned, the weapon is useful throughout the game and even better once upgraded. By adding both the tactical Stock and the Semi-Auto Barrel, players will find that their shots are more focused and less spread, and like the Magnum barrel extender, results in a more powerful blast. The Tactical Stock is found in the Subway Station, which requires the use of the Green Jewel on the Monument. The Semi-Auto Barrel is in Gun Shop Kendo on the left side.
Those who played the original Resident Evil 3 likely breathed a collective sigh of relief when they saw that the upgraded shotgun was in fact that, an upgrade. This is because in the original game, players would need to painstakingly defeat Nemesis over and over throughout the game to acquire the necessary shotgun upgrade parts, but the result was less than ideal.
Instead of making the weapon more powerful, the original “upgrade” turned the Benelli M3S into the Western Custom M37, which made the barrel much shorter, weaker in its blast, and the fire rate much faster. This provided a stylish one-handed reload and ate through shells as though they were handgun bullets. Want to waste three to four shotgun shells on a single zombie? This is the way to do it.
The weapon was a blast to use with the infinite ammunition option on subsequent playthroughs but absolutely useless against endgame bioweapons. Thankfully, when developing the remake of Resident Evil 3, enough people had the sense to not repeat that same design choice from the original game.
Since players are free to craft their own ammunition, the shotgun is simply a great weapon overall. With a little practice, most players will be able to outmaneuver zombies, dogs, and other slow bioweapons that needlessly suck up ammunition. By crafting mainly shotgun shells and not wasting ammunition, it is easy to get through the harder difficulties without much trouble.
