When Resident Evil 2 Remake was first announced back in 2015, Capcom had been extremely quiet about the game’s development and remained silent for three years. However, when the remake was revealed at E3 2018, Capcom consistently released details from trailers to gameplay footages and character designs. Up until today, players were unable to catch a glimpse of Ada Wong, a secondary character that played a vital role on Leon’s story in the original Resident Evil 2. However, an image was recently leaked that showcased Ada’s updated look.
The leaked image surfaced on Reddit and shows Ada Wong sporting an incognito look complete with sunglasses, a gray scarf, and a trench coat. It is likely that Ada’s iconic red dress is concealed under the coat unless the developers decided to go a different way. Although the leaked image looks legit, Capcom is yet to acknowledge the photo, so it is not guaranteed that this will be Ada’s official design.
Ever since the E3 reveal of Resident Evil 2 Remake, Capcom mostly featured Leon S. Kennedy in trailers, gameplay footages, and marketing collaterals. However, a few weeks ago, the studio finally revealed the character design for Claire Redfield, the game’s other primary character. Claire is showcased in a photo posing beside a Harley-Davidson motorcycle, which is assumed to be the same vehicle she uses to enter Raccoon City.
As with Leon’s new look, Claire’s design also remains faithful to the original, besides her outfit, which changed from a vest and shorts to a red leather jacket and pants. Capcom previously explained the choices they had to make in redesigning RE2 Remake’s characters as they strive to remain faithful to the original, but at the same time, ensuring that character designs would suit the remake’s overall look.
Capcom’s decision to remake Resident Evil 2 seems to be a step in the right direction, as hype for the upcoming title is stronger than ever. A few days ago, RE2 Remake’s director, Kazunori Kadori, stated that Capcom is very much open to another remake of the original Resident Evil, which is the most remade game in the franchise’s history.
Previously, the first Resident Evil was remade from the ground up in 2002, remastered in 2015, and had various versions such as the Director’s Cut and Dual Shock version. Of course, it could be better for Capcom, or any game developer to focus on creating new games instead of remaking the old ones. However, imagine the original Resident Evil in modern day graphics, running on the RE Engine, and embodying the creepier vibe of RE2 Remake, it’s definitely too good to miss.
Resident Evil 2 Remake is set to release on January 25, 2019, for the PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
