The original Resident Evil 2 was good enough on its own. This modern-day enhancement took that all to the next level. Quickly after its 2019 debut, Resident Evil 2 Remake became known as one of the best video games of all time. It will no doubt rank many gamers’ top ten lists for many years to come.

One of the most important items in the remake, if you’re playing as Claire Redfield, is the heart key. In order to make your way out of the police station, it is absolutely vital that players acquire the heart key. That task is easier said than done. So, this article is here to help you with your zombie-killing quest. Here is a step-by-step guide to getting the heart key in Resident Evil 2 Remake.

9 Make It To The Parking Garage

You need to make it all the way through the game to the parking garage before you need to worry about finding the heart key. It won’t be until after several hours that you make it to the parking garage.

In order to get there, you’ll have to find the three medallions in order to unlock the secret passage leading under the police station. Then, you’ll need to defeat the G-virus mutated William Birkin. Once you’ve finished with that battle, you’ll be able to head straight to the garage.

8 Go To The Morgue

Next, Claire needs to head to the morgue. Look out for lickers in the hallways on your way there. Whereas dogs are the enemies you face during this part of the game as Leon, Claire runs into quite a few of the much deadlier clickers-mutants.

Once you finally get to the morgue, you’ll have to pull out the drawers in order to get what you’re looking for. Pull out the second drawer from the left on the left side of the room and you’ll find…

7 Get The Diamond Key

The diamond key! You’ll need the diamond key in order to make your way to the heart key. In addition to that, there are a few other areas of note that you can open up using this key, namely the linen room and firing range.

After exploring the other newly accessible areas, head to the elevator passage and use the diamond key to open up the door there.

6 Find The Elevator Control Room

Upon finding the elevator passage and opening the diamond marked door, you’ll have made your way into the elevator control room. There is a terminal at the end of the room that you need to interact with in order to turn on the elevator.

Don’t miss the Shoulder Stock GM 79 weapon upgrade that can be found in a locker inside of the control room before you exit.

5 Enter The Chief’s Office

Now that the elevator is on, you can exit the elevator control room, enter the elevator and make your way up to the Chief’s Office. After exiting the elevator, you’ll need to cross the hallway in order to enter his office.

If you find good loot outside of the Chief’s Office but don’t have enough inventory space to hold it, don’t fret. There’s a storage box just inside the door. Once you’re done gathering loot, enter the Chief’s Office.

4 Go To The Private Collection Room

Head to the south side of the Chief’s Office and there you will find a corridor that leads to the Private Collection Room. Here you’ll see the keycard you need locked behind a door that requires multiple electrical panels to open.

In order to progress and find those panels, you’re going to need the heart key. Luckily for you, it’s just around the corner.

3 Pick Up Lovers Relief

Make your way to the back of the room where there is an owl statue and a small, engraved picture sitting on a desk. Pick up the small picture, which is called the Lovers Relief.

Upon finding the Lovers Relief, you don’t quite have the heart key yet. However, fortunately for you, there is only one step left for you to do.

2 Examine Lovers Relief

Examining objects is one of the most important aspects of the Resident Evil franchise. If you forget to examine every single object there are many things you’re going to miss, leaving you horribly frustrated.

One thing you would miss is the heart key. Simply flip around the Lovers Relief and you’ll see that the heart key is detachable from the back. Remove it and return to your zombie killing quest.

1 You’ve Found The Key

Now you have the heart key! It will allow you to progress through the story as well as get into several other key locations.

Going forward, you will now be able to access: the Chief’s Office corridor door, the records room, the east storage room, and the interrogation room (where, if you’re playing as Claire, you’re in for a surprise).
