As expected, the recently released Resident Evil 2 is filled with secrets and locked doors, pushing players to leave no stone unturned. From unlockable weapons like the magnum and shotgun to locked areas of the map like the Clock Tower, players will need to look through every inch of the Raccoon City Police Department in order to find answers. One section of the building known as the Boiler Room has been especially tricky in getting to thanks to its location as well as the requirements to get there.
Located on the first floor of the Police Station behind a burning helicopter crash, the Boiler Room is largely inaccessible until players finish off the Medallion quest as well as traverse through the underground sections of the building. It’s also worth noting that Claire can’t access this room through either of her Resident Evil 2 campaign scenarios, leaving the task up to Leon who will need to gain access in order to find the very important Club Key.
After arriving back at the Raccoon City Police Headquarters, head outside to the roof on the eastern side of the building. In order to get there, players will need to get to the second floor, an area that only becomes accessible after the crank is retrieved from the basement. After making it outside, the ladder breaks and Leon is now stranded in this area for the time being. Grab the bullets on the red bench near the fiery crash, then head down the stairs to find the Boiler Room door. Approaching causes two zombies to shamble out, but once they’re dealt with, head inside to find the Club Key taped to the whiteboard. This key can open up the Records Room, to find the jack handle, as well as the Observation Room.
With the key in hand, the only way back into the building will be through the helicopter crash. Right next to the Boiler Room door is a water pump as well as pipes running to various spots. In its current state, the system isn’t working, so players will need to interact with the pump on the wall and reverse the pump flow from Right to Left. Head back up the staircase and interact with the lever next to the crash to deal with the fire. While that problem is solved, a new one rises from the wreckage in the form of Mr. X, who waits to torment players behind the door. Unfortunately, this is a character which is not only hard to deal with but will also endlessly pursue players throughout the police station.
Resident Evil 2 is out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
