Resident Evil 2, arguably the first big game release of 2019, is now available. However, it’s soon to be followed by Kingdom Hearts 3 on January 29, and one of the busiest Februaries in gaming history. Some gamers may be trying to decide how they’re going to manage their time with all the big releases coming up, and may be making a determination which titles to prioritize over others. Considering this, it may interest some fans how long it takes to beat Resident Evil 2, but the answer to that is somewhat complicated.
In our own testing, an initial playthrough of Resident Evil 2 as either Leon or Claire took about six hours. The following 2nd Run B scenario then took an additional six hours, so one full run of Resident Evil 2 will likely clock in between 12-15 hours, depending on skill level, difficulty, etc.
However, even after completing two runs of the game as Leon and Claire, there’s more to do in Resident Evil 2. In total, there are four “scenarios” that players can go through, Leon A, Leon B, Claire A, and Claire B. Completing Leon A unlocks Claire B, and completing Claire A unlocks Leon B. Luckily, if players manage to complete Leon A/Claire B or Claire A/Leon B, they will automatically unlock the remaining scenarios and can then jump around as they see fit.
So to fully see everything Resident Evil 2 has to offer in terms of story content, we estimate that it will take around 20 hours depending on skill level. After that, though, there’s still plenty of other things to do in the game, such as finding all of the collectible items, unlocking the achievements, and more.
Additionally, completing Leon A/Claire B or Claire A/Leon B will unlock The 4th Survivor bonus scenario, which stars Umbrella operative HUNK as the playable character. Completing HUNK’s scenario unlocks the Tofu Mode, giving Resident Evil 2 players even more to do after the credits roll and adding to the game’s replay value.
In the future, Resident Evil 2 fans can expect Capcom to expand on the game even further. Future DLC will add new costumes for Claire and Leon to wear, in addition to The Ghost Survivors game mode, which stars some new playable characters.
Resident Evil 2 is out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
