Resident Evil 7 brought back the survival-horror genre that characterizes the Resident Evil franchise, leaving behind the more action-focused gameplay prevalent in RE5 and RE6. Not only that, but fans also encountered new characters and elements in the story that ended up intertwining with the long-standing characters in the series.
And while the newest installment in the franchise, Resident Evil: Village, is just around the corner, now is the perfect time to go over things that happened in the last games, so you don’t get lost in the plot when Lady Dimitrescu and her daughters make their debut.
10 The Sonido De Tortuga Island Mission
A year after the events of RE6, Claire Redfield is sent to the South American island “Sonido de Tortuga” by the N.G.O. TerraSave to figure out what was wrong with the island.
It turns out that on that island, a reality show called “Idol Survival” was taking place until an outbreak of a strain of the T-Virus spread throughout the area. While trying to save the reality contestants, Claire makes a shocking discovery: Alex Wesker set up a secret laboratory on that island to try to achieve a variation of the virus that could have granted Oswell E. Spencer, one of the founders of Umbrella Corporation, immortality.
9 The E-Type Bioweapon
Although Eveline is one of the antagonists of Resident Evil 7, fans can learn about her story in the Old Videotape used in that game. The tape reveals that Eveline, or E-001, is the only prototype of a bio-weapon based on the E-Type Virus. The idea was to create a B.O.W. that had mind-control abilities.
This new B.O.W. Project belongs to none other than the international crime syndicate, The Connections, where Mia Winters was a member.
8 Ebihara And The Chosen One
In Biohazard: The Experience, two nurses, Ebihara and Abe, enter a mansion in an attempt to flee from a horde of zombies. There they encounter other people that were abducted and thrown into the mansion without any knowledge of what is going on. Together they try to escape the place and discover why they were all gathered there in the first place.
They later learn that one of the strangers in the mansion, Karasawa, was injected with the T-Virus and inserted in the mansion with other humans to measure his new abilities. By doing this, he became a Tyrant, a super-soldier, and the ultimate biological weapon.
7 The Revenge Of Glenn Arias
Resident Evil: Vendetta is an animated film that focuses on Glenn Arias’ revenge story. This revenge begins on his wedding day when the C.I.A. dropped a smart bomb using a drone.
One of the casualties of that day was Sarah, Glenn’s fiancée; the bomb was so devastating all of what was left from Sarah was her arm. Luckily, Arias’ assistant, Maria, survived the drone attack, which explains her determination for Arias’ plans to succeed.
6 The A-Virus Creation
The A-Virus is the new virus developed by Glenn Arias to consummate his revenge; this variant is divided into three strains: a latent one, a trigger for the first one, and the vaccine he wants to prevent Rebecca Chambers from developing. One of the characteristics of this virus is that the resulting zombies can differentiate between allies and enemies.
To complete his plan, he first took over the black market that TRICELL and Neo Umbrella left behind. Then, through his water bottle bottling company, he began to distribute this new virus.
5 Return Of Plagas
In Resident Evil: Vendetta, when Chris and Rebecca go in search of Leon, she says that the A-Virus’s genome is very similar to Plagas, a parasitic arthropod associated with Los Iluminados.
Patricio confirms this later on. He says that Los Iluminados are working side by side with Arias, providing him with parasites for his experiments in the development of his new virus.
4 The Chris-Leon Duo
One of the best moments in Resident Evil: Vendetta was the duo that Chris Redfield and Leon S. Kennedy formed to defeat the final boss.
While Leon and Chris have known each other since CODE: Veronica through Claire, it’s in Resident Evil 6 the first time they share the screen. Moreover, it’s in Vendetta when they work as a proper team for the first time. Before this moment, they had different partners.
3 The Last Night Of Zoe Baker With Her Family
October 10, 2014. A hurricane wrecked the tankship Annabelle, which had The Connection’s prized prototype, E-001/Eveline, and her guardian, Agent Mia Winters, inside.
In the “Banned Footage Vol. 2” DLC, The Baker family rescues them both and brings them home, not knowing that one of them is a B.O.W. with mind-manipulation powers. That night Zoe Baker witnesses Eveline taking advantage of her new situation and infecting Jack, Marguerite, and Lucas Baker. The Bakers, who now have more than one “daughter,” will never be the same.
2 Clancy Jarvis’ Death
Clancy Jarvis was the cameraman for a team of paranormal investigators who worked on the Sewer Gators, an internet program. During Clancy’s first investigation, the crew entered the Dulvey Haunted House, but none of them came out alive, including Clancy, who, to his credit, was the last one to die and resisted the Bakers’ macabre games.
Clancy is murdered by Lucas Baker in the Resident Evil 7 Teaser Demo: The Beginning Hour. Although the entire Baker family contributed to his torture, it wasn’t until the “Happy Birthday” tape came along that Clancy Jarvis was burned alive. Later, during Resident Evil 7, Ethan finds the video of his death and his charred corpse.
1 A.M.G. 78’s Discovery
In Resident Evil 7’s DLC, End of Zoe, Joe Baker tries to save his niece from her father by injecting her with a cure. However, he had no chance of winning against a Jack Baker completely mutated by the E-virus. Still, Joe finds a prototype of an Advanced Multi-purpose Gauntlet designed by Blue Umbrella.
It’s with this device that he manages to defeat his brother and rescue his niece. Eventually, Blue Umbrella agents showed up; it turns out that they had been watching the Bakers since they noticed that Lucas Baker was in direct contact with The Connections.
