The internet went collectively bananas over the titanic Lady Dimitrescu when she was given prominent and scary screen time in the Resident Evil Village trailer. Yet despite her huge size, she’s far from the only massive Resident Evil character that we’ve seen over the years.
How many times were gamers spooked out by Mr. X’s thunderous footsteps or shaken by the sound of a nearby Nemesis? It’s time to take a look at the largest characters that gamers have seen featured in the franchise. Whether they’re player characters or engaging enemies, one thing is for sure: these characters ate their greens growing up.
10 Leon S Kennedy: 5 Feet 11 Inches
While he may not be one of the original S.T.A.R.S. squad, Leon earned his paycheck when he fought through a Spanish village full of parasite-infested cultists (as well as a police station with an accompanying lab). Measuring in at 5’ 11", Leon is one of the tallest player characters from the Resident Evil series.
Over the course of his games, Leon has put his naturally good reach to use with a string of knife fights and other CQC battles.
9 Morpheus D. Duvall: 6 Feet
Precious few people played Resident Evil: Dead Aim. Not that many gamers who did had a great time, though. One of the few good points about the game was this character.
A terrifying researcher turned bio-terrorist who injected himself with a peculiar mixture of viruses. The result was that he shape-shifted into this monstrous being while retaining his original height of a full six feet. Eventually, he would mutate into an even more hideous blob monster, which haunted the dreams of the few gamers who experienced this game.
8 Jack Baker: 6 Feet 2 Inches
The patriarch of the Baker family may not be the tallest character in the series, yet what he lacks in height, he more than makes up for in intimidation factor.
Jack is a burly, nigh-indestructible monster who will terrorize players throughout their playthroughs of Resident Evil 7. What makes him even scarier is that the game is played from a first-person perspective, which means his size is even more evident. As if his strength and regeneration abilities weren’t enough, in his final form, Jack becomes around 18 feet tall.
7 Bitores Mendez: 6 Feet 8 Inches
Bitores Mendez, AKA “the Village Chief” is an early-game antagonist in Resident Evil 4, and oh boy, does he give players a baptism of fire. After man-handling Leon a number of times, yet leaving him to live, Bitores apparently decides that enough is enough, and fights Leon in one of the game’s best boss fights.
While the big boy is a tough fight, his second form will make your skin crawl. Happily, while Leon has many faults, cowardice is not one of them, and Mendez is soon dispatched.
6 Mr. X: 7 Feet
Stomp, stomp, stomp. For anyone who has played Resident Evil 2’s remake, the sound of Mr X’s stomps will send a chill down their spine.
The heavy footfalls of this massive hatted monster meant one thing and one thing only: impending doom. The only thing that made him slightly less terrifying was the mod that blasted DMX’s X Gon’ Give It To Ya as he approached.
5 Nemesis: 8 Feet
What do you do when you’re making a sequel to one of the scariest horror games of all time? Well, you make the villain even bigger than the previous one, of course! Resident Evil 3’s Nemesis could give Mr. X a run for his money any day, standing a whole foot higher than the previous game’s main monster.
Honestly, though, Nemesis’s height isn’t the scariest thing about him. Nemesis also has a rocket launcher! Once again, modders came to the rescue to alleviate the terror, though, with one mod turning Nemesis into everyone’s favorite ogre.
4 The Verdugos: 8 Feet 5 Inches
Ramon Salazar is one of gamers’ favorite characters from the entire series, yet his bodyguards pose a much more vicious threat to Leon throughout the game. The Verdugos are a pair of genetically engineered bodyguards that have had their DNA spliced with insect DNA.
The result is a massive chitinous mess that is invulnerable except under very limited circumstances. This means that facing them is always an exercise in terror, and a fantastic one at that
3 The T-002 Tyrant: 8 Feet 7 Inches
The original Resident Evil’s final boss is not only one of the series’ toughest fights, but he’s also one of the tallest enemies that you encounter throughout the franchise.
Standing at an impressive 8’ 7", this first-generation Tyrant bioweapon is an absolute monster (literally and metaphorically). Eventually, T-002 mutates into a super tyrant, which can only be killed with a rocket launcher. Quite the intro to the series, huh?
2 Lady Dimitrescu: 9 Feet 6 Inches
More of a vampire than a zombie, the good Lady Dimitrescu is a truly staggering sight. In the trailer for Resident Evil Village, we see her sprouting Wolverine-esque claws as well as appearing to lift the player character some 10 feet off the ground.
Collectively, the internet has had two different reactions to Lady Dimitrescu. One half of the internet appears to have fallen in love with the bloodsucking beauty of Romania, the other half is shrinking in terror.
1 Thanatos: 12 Feet
When you’re named for the Greek god of death, you’ve got to be tough. Thanatos is one of the main antagonists from the under-played Resident Evil: Outbreak, and oh boy, does he pose a threat.
A combination of different kinds of Tyrant bioweapon, the end result is a monstrous, huge enemy that is exceptionally hard to dispatch. The only way that he can be defeated is with a vaccine made from his own blood. Quite the metal way to go.
