A woman of mystery, Ada Wong appears periodically to inject a touch of unpredictability to Resident Evil and, presumably, to mess with Leon Scott Kennedy’s head. Referenced in 1996’s Resident Evil before physically debuting in 1998’s sequel, Ada’s ambiguous nature, strong but playful personality, and confident femininity has made her one of the franchise’s most beloved characters. Similar to how she gets under Leon’s skin, Ada does the same to players.
Ada is a popular character that has remained somewhat of an enigma despite being playable in a handful of the main titles and a few spin-offs. While they might not reveal too much about her personality, these 10 great fan art drawings showcase Ada in a unique light.
10 Light & Dark
Art by omegarer.
Through some impeccable use of shadow and lighting, omegarer crafted an art piece that encapsulates the appeal of Ada. She is a character defined by uncertainty and misdirection. Does she really care about Leon or is everything she does a ploy to manipulate the cop (or agent)? She steals samples and data for Umbrella’s rival companies, but is she really only in it for the money?
Taken on its own, this is a stunning work of art that speaks volumes about the character.
9 Remade Ada
Art by Trubakoff.
Unsurprisingly, Resident Evil 2’s remake has dominated the franchise’s fan art community over the last two years. If a drawing of Leon, Ada, or Claire Redfield was uploaded sometime in 2019, their designs were likely inspired by Capcom’s recent release.
Trubakoff captures Ada’s complexity as a character. Surrounded by zombies and not exactly packing a rocket launcher, she is caught in a seemingly hopeless situation; however, Ada remains strong and confident despite the staggering odds. Even when on the brink of death, she refuses to remove her mask.
8 Femme Fatale
Art by miqdadhbl.
Resident Evil 2’s remake has a few alternate outfits for Leon and Claire, with some of the more unique ones being part of the “Extra DLC Pack.” If Leon were to try on the noir outfit, Ada’s costume would also change to match his new design. While she arguably looks closer to a femme fatale in her traditional red dress, the noir outfit also complements Ada’s personality.
Miqdadhbl’s art piece shows an impressive eye for detail and mastery over the use of perspective to highlight a character and their wider environment.
7 3D Ada Wong
Art by DemonLeon3D.
For the Resident Evil remake, Capcom decided to give Ada a new look more befitting of a spy trying to remain inconspicuous. While she does eventually switch to her classic red dress, Ada starts the game in a trench coat and sunglasses, a design that really stresses the character’s mystique.
DemonLeon3D created this version of Ada using tools like Adobe Creative Suite and Blender, and the fan art looks nearly identical to the source material. The art piece is excellent.
6 Wounded
Art by raikoart.
Like in 1998’s original, 2019’s remake allows players to control Ada for a short period. During Leon’s story, Ada takes charge after the cop is temporarily taken out of action by Annette Birkin in the sewers.
Raikoart’s drawing tells a story. Ada is injured, tense, and even seems to be slightly frightened, an emotion she seldom shows. The Licker lurking in the background is the obvious threat, but there could also be something terrifying hiding beneath the water. It is a masterfully depicted scene.
5 Resident Evil 6 Ada
Art by mzrz.
Resident Evil 6 is the most polarizing entry in the franchise, mostly because its four campaigns fluctuate greatly in terms of quality. For the first time in a numbered entry in the series, Ada gets her own campaign, although the other three must be completed before hers becomes available.
Mzrz’s Ada is a departure from the original, with the character clearly being inspired by anime. If this drawing is anything to go by, then a Resident Evil anime needs to exist that does not use motion-capture CGI.
4 Aim, Ready, & Fire
Art by NikitaNV.
Ada is a character defined by action. Although she generally avoids getting into any unnecessary trouble, there is never a moment she is not working to accomplish something. Ada is not afraid to get her hands dirty and refuses to compromise her style in the process, regardless of the inherent silliness that comes with wearing high heels during a zombie apocalypse that might require the occasional sprint.
NikitaNV’s Ada might be in the middle of a high-octane action scene, but she looks completely in control.
3 Mystery
Art by tetsuok9999.
Drawn using a combination of PaintTool Sai and Adobe Creative Suite, tetsuok9999 put together a wonderful tribute to Resident Evil 6’s version of Ada. This character is versatile, complicated, and her own person.
Unlike Claire Redfield and, to a lesser extent, Jill Valentine, Ada’s gender is relevant to her characterization. Exhibiting both masculine and feminine traits, she uses both to her advantage as need be.
2 Out Of This World
Art by artkuzu.
Artkuzu’s drawing is hypnotic. Ada is naturally the highlight, with every aspect of the character hitting the mark. Despite deviating quite a bit from the source material, this drawing still incorporates all the defining visual traits that represent Capcom’s mysterious spy.
The background is also stunning, as the colors almost give off a cyberpunk aesthetic. It is a unique drawing that stands on its own while capturing the essence of the real Ada Wong.
1 Survivor
Art by Venom-Rules-all.
If there is one thing Resident Evil makes crystal clear about Ada, it is that she is a survivor. For the most part, little is known about her employers or the connections she has, but she generally seems to work alone. At most, she might manipulate a local police officer to make her job a touch easier.
Even when she might be hurt, Ada continues to walk forward using her own power. Venom-Rules-all’s Ada might be vulnerable and wounded but her strength of character comes across fully.
