At one point in time, Sega was the second most prominent gaming company in the world, competing head to head with Nintendo in the early 90’s with the Sega Genesis, and controlling a decent amount of the market share. Unfortunately, since the Genesis days, Sega went on a steep downward spiral, resulting in the early discontinuation of the Dreamcast console to focus entirely on game development. Since bowing out of the console race, the quality of Sega games have sharply declined, particularly in regards to their flagship franchise, Sonic the Hedgehog....

Another fast-food giant is teaming up with a popular video game series. Arby’s will partner up with Shovel Knight for a limited-time promotion in its kids’ meals. You can collect seven different launcher tokens representing the different characters in the game. Each token will include a DLC code used either on Switch or Steam. The promotion will run from now until May 31. While it’s not yet known exactly what the different codes will unlock, you can speculate it’s something worthwhile....

Ubisoft’s upcoming naval IP, Skull and Bones, has a lot of mystery around it. Archery is one of the best combat types in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim because it pairs very well with stealth builds, and with the right perks, you can deal a ton of damage with a single arrow. Slime Rancher presents players with a magical slime-filled world where they are able to start a ranch on an alien planet and prosper. The only problem is that the Far Far Range isn’t exactly teeming at the bits to let you discover all its secrets. From the very beginning of the game, you will start to run into stone doors that keep you from progressing further into the planet. This also means that many of the unique variety of slimes you can find are locked away until you are able to find a way to open the doors....

Smite is adding a new skin in patch 4.8 for the Roman tree god Sylvanus, styled after the late iconic modern painter and recent Twitch marathon star Bob Ross. The Bob Ross skin will transform Sylvanus into the man himself, riding atop a Grover and painting his way to victory. All of Sylvanus’ abilities have been thematically transformed into Bob Ross-related animations. The patch is tentatively scheduled to launch on May 16, with the Bob Ross skin being featured in a bundle with lots of other related goodies for $9....

News that Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla would include a female version of protagonist Eivor made waves across the fan community, as the practice was heavily appreciated by most players. With the feature allowing players to choose the character’s gender in previous Assassin’s Creed titles, like Syndicate and Odyssey, it seems like an obvious choice, although it seems some developers didn’t initially intend it to be a choice at all. According to reports from “Seiiki” Dell’Aria, the designer of the recently revealed Assassin’s Sisterhood Symbol, the choice of gender for these protagonist’s was caused by disagreements with former Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla Director Ashraf Ismail....

EA confirms that not all FIFA 21 save data can be transferred to next-generation consoles. EA announced FIFA 21 for PC and consoles during its EA Play event yesterday, confirming that the next-gen version of the game would have “blazing fast” loading speeds among other features. Some FIFA fans may be surprised by EA’s decision not to allow all save games and game data to be transferred between consoles. Like Madden NFL 21’s free upgrade system, FIFA 21 players will be able to get a free copy of the game on PS5 or Xbox Series X if they’ve purchased the game on the PS4 or Xbox One....

In mid-October, patch 1.10 for Riot Games’ free-to-play multiplayer game Valorant was released, and with it arrived Icebox, a new map for Valorant that put the emphasis on skirmishes with plenty of verticality, areas for cover, and even ziplines. The Icebox map was released ahead of schedule and was intended to remain in a beta state for at least two weeks. Set in a former Arctic excavation site and veiled in a cover of ice and snow, the change in environment appealed to players....

Even when things look grim, the spunky cast is quick to turn things around. One Redditor has decided to reimagine the world, and it looks like a beautiful, dystopian alternate universe that I’m itching to dive into now. The Chao first appeared in Sonic Adventure on the Sega Dreamcast. Since then, these cute little critters have featured in several other Sonic titles, both as part of the series’ narrative and in various Chao raising minigames. Players are able to rear their own Chao in a similar way to Pokémon. They can grow stronger, battle other Chao, breed, and they can even evolve. There’s a lot more complexity to the Chao raising aspects of the Sonic Adventure games than first meets the eye....

Sega has just announced the Sonic Origins during today’s Sonic Central presentation. This confirms an earlier leak from a French retailer that a brand new Sonic compendium was coming and an earlier rumor that it would contain both Sonic 3 and Sonic & Knuckles. This is the first time the paired games have appeared in a Sonic re-release since Sonic’s Ultimate Genesis Collection for the PS3 and Xbox 360 back in 2009....

Everyone’s favorite hedgehog who loves to go fast is celebrating his own 30th anniversary this year. To mark the occasion, a special new collection by IDW will hit comic book stores this year. The 80-page comic features three different stories and lots of nostalgia. Two New York Times best-selling authors were even brought on for the project, Gale Galligan and the McElroy Brothers.
