Over the course of 2020, Jagex – the studio behind RuneScape – managed to raise £445,778 for mental health charities. This includes organizations such as CPSL Mind, Prince’s Trust, Rise Above The Disorder, SpecialEffect, Blueprint for All and even The National Videogame Museum. RuneScape has held a special Mental Health Awareness Week every year since 2018. These events gave players a chance to learn more about mental health, bring awareness to various charities engaged in promoting mental health, and earn a few exclusive items in the process....

A Russian artificial intelligence company named Mind Simulation is working on an AI version of Geralt of Rivia, the main character of The Witcher series. The simulation places the player in a tavern sitting across from Geralt for a conversation. Although there are many renditions of Geralt, the preview shown by Mind Simulation seems to pull Geralt’s character model straight from The Witcher video games. However, Geralt’s voice is not represented well, as it is robotic and missing any sort of personality....

Microsoft has officially announced that Rare’s multiplayer pirate action game Sea of Thieves will feature cross-play between Xbox One and PC. The announcement came during today’s Xbox Gamescom livestream, which included some new trailers, a few announcements, and concluded with the launch of Xbox One X pre-orders. But cross-play for Sea of Thieves could be the biggest surprise, with the game’s closed technical alpha implementing the feature, effective immediately. This isn’t the first time that Rare has talked about cross-play for Sea of Thieves, however....

The power of the Xbox Series X has been demonstrated through Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, which can run at 60fps on Microsoft’s new system. The story of FromSoftware and frame rates has been one of frustration, from Blighttown to Bloodborne. Everyone complains about Bloodborne, which runs at a locked 30fps. There are even unofficial patches that can let the game run at 60fps, but these aren’t endorsed by FromSoftware. The fact that Bloodborne is going to be part of the PlayStation Plus Collection gives fans hope that a 60fps upgrade is in the works on PS5....

Since launching to resounding success last year, Activision’s battle royale Call of Duty: Warzone has received constant updates to keep its content fresh. In December, those updates took a whole new direction when Call of Duty: Warzone integrated with Black Ops Cold War, the newly released title from Treyarch and Raven Software. The first season following that integration is expected to end February 24, according to Dexerto, and now fans are finding teasers for what new features may be coming to the game soon....

Capcom quietly updated its sales figures for a number of popular titles last month, and it’s been revealed that Resident Evil 2 Remake is now the publisher’s third best-selling game of all-time. First discovered by news outlet Kitguru, Resident Evil 2 Remake is currently tied with Resident Evil 5 in terms of overall sales, according to Capcom’s Platinum Titles list. Tied at 7.8 million sales each, both games are currently third place in the list....
