The developer of Shovel Knight, Yacht Club Games, is now hiring for someone to work on a 3D title, according to a recent job listing. As per a job posting for Mid-Senior Gameplay Progammer on Gamasutra, Yacht Club Games is expanding its 3D team to “complement our existing 2D team.” Given that Yacht Club Games typically works exclusively on 2D games, such as their modern classic, Shovel Knight, it is interesting that the team is expanding into the 3D realm....

Skateboarding games seemed to dip out of the gaming spotlight around the turn of the decade. Even though Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5 came out in 2015, the game was largely panned and didn’t sell well compared to its superstar predecessors. The other EA powerhouse skateboarding franchise, Skate, had its last mainline release in 2010. Since then, likely due to the waning popularity of skating in general, there just weren’t any more skateboarding games being made....

Part of what makes Skyrim such a renowned RPG for many is its immersive world. Every area is packed with hidden stories, details that allude to events, or hidden quests that evolve into memorable experiences. Hold capitals are a great example of this. With over 270 total quests available in Skyrim, there is a good chance that most players haven’t seen every side quest on offer. Between the multiple guilds that can be joined, Hold quests to become Thane, and new quests introduced in the Dawnguard and Dragonborn DLC, many great quests can fly under the radar if players aren’t actively looking for them. Some of these quests are simply fetch-type quests or require a bandit camp to be cleared out, while others give a rich backstory on certain events or characters in the game and are well worth completing for this along....

Incineration Productions has been hard at work on the virtual reality PC title that features intense spellcasting battles. Players become mighty magicians in breathtaking surreal environments with a vibrant comic book aesthetic and music straight out of the 1980s. In SpellPunk VR, you become a full-body avatar who duels in fast-paced battle. There is no spell book or magic words to invoke, instead players must use the VR tools to correctly draw spells in the air with their hands while opposing players do the same in the three leveled game modes....

Dying Light quickly earned a reputation for being a fluid and fun zombie survival game thanks to its engaging combat and parkour mechanics when it launched back in 2015. 1996’s Resident Evil is on any respectable shortlist of the most influential console games of all-time. While it didn’t invent the idea of horror gaming, it popularized that concept in such a way that makes it almost impossible to imagine how the horror genre would have ever thrived in gaming without it. Capcom launches a remastered version of Resident Evil 5 on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, complete with upgraded graphics and a brand new difficulty mode. Seven years since it originally launched, the somewhat divisive Resident Evil 5 is now available for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. PS4 and Xbox One owners can download it digitally starting today, but those that want a physical disc will have to wait until July 12th to purchase the current-gen version of Resident Evil 5....

While 4K resolution and HDR color are hardly new inventions, I wasn’t sold on them in the past generation. Be it because 4K displays were too expensive or HDR wasn’t really expressive enough, it took the recent release of Resident Evil Village to show me how substantial an improvement HDR can make to a game. Episode One of Life Is Strange left players in a peaceful setting, and though Life Is Strange: Episode 2 – Out Of Time begins much the same way, things become increasingly tense, culminating in a scene that leaves players standing on a dangerous precipice.
