When the Marvel Cinematic Universe began in earnest with 2011’s Thor, which bridged the gap between Iron Man and Captain America: The First Avenger, industry figures were skeptical at its feasibility. At the time, this idea of a shared universe of superhero movies was utterly unprecedented, leading to many Hollywood stalwarts becoming wary at its chance of success. Of course, 10 years and one Infinity Saga later, history has proved them wrong and seemingly every studio is rushing to have a ‘cinematic universe’ of its own....

There has been a lot of news lately about several key members of the Sonic the Hedgehog voice cast stepping away from the series. Back in January it was announced that the longtime voice of the blue blur Roger Craig Smith would be leaving the role, but it appears Mike Pollock, the actor behind Dr. Eggman for almost 20 years, isn’t going anywhere. On top of Roger Craig Smith, Cindy Robinson confirmed she would be leaving the role of Amy Rose, and Colleen O’Shaughnessey has said she would not be voicing Tails in the upcoming Sonic Prime show for Netflix....

Sony announced a new Iron Man game for PlayStation 4 called Marvel’s Iron Man VR during the inaugural State of Play live stream on Monday. The VR title will put players in Tony Stark’s cool suit (or his helmet, at least) via a virtual reality headset and will provide them with the experience of soaring through the skies and making things explode. The project is being undertaken by developers Camoflaj, the team that brought us 2013’s Republique and its VR port....

The COVID-19 pandemic affects just about every industry, and cinema is no different. As the seventh-generation of consoles slowly gave way to the eighth and serialized releases like those in the Call of Duty and Battlefield series dominated headlines and ate up teenagers’ allowance money, niche genres—horror, in particular—seemed to fall by the wayside. With once-mainstay series like Dead Space, Resident Evil, and Silent Hill fading into irrelevance, it looked as if the future may be dominated entirely be titles with six-figure budgets, focused-grouped, homogenized plots and settings, and shoehorned in multiplayer and microtransactions....

It’s tough to say where I land on my thoughts with Resident Evil Village. Part of me adores it, even considering it the franchises’ best. The other side of me sees it as a rehash, a collection of ideas with little to help define its own identity. It’s a hard game to boil down, but ultimately, I had fun with it, and part of what I cherished was its beautifully executed balance between horror and action despite criticisms that it lacked the former....
