A recent job listing from Sony Santa Monica has revealed that the new IP the studio is working on will be fantasy-based. It’s been rumored for a while now that Sony Santa Monica, the studio behind God of War, has been working on a brand new IP alongside God of War: Ragnarok, and a recent job listing has poured fuel on the fire. According to the Santa Monica careers website, the studio is looking for a Senior Character Concept Artist and one of the requirements listed is to have the ability to “render realistic believable fantasy-based characters, creatures, and props....

Sega has officially announced the resignation of Executive Vice President Kenji Matsubara after his request for resignation was accepted by Sega’s board of directors. An official statement from Sega Sammy Holdings Inc. (via GamesIndustry) cited “personal reasons” as the explanation for Matsubara’s abrupt resignation, with no further details provided. Matsubara was hired by Sega in 2014 as Chief Technology Officer for the company and served as the company’s Executive Vice President since 2017....

Add another developer to the growing list of studios frustrated with Sony’s lack of movement on cross-platform play between PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. War Thunder, Gaijin Entertainment’s vehicular combat multiplayer game, posted a message on Twitter calling Sony out. Sony Pictures Television and PlayStation Productions are developing a live-action series based on the Twisted Metal video game franchise. The adaptation will be based on an original take from Deadpool and Zombieland writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. Released in 1995, the first Twisted Metal game allowed players to select a vehicle with which they would fight rivals using a variety of weapons located within the arena of their choice, with the last driver standing being crowned the victor....

Sony wants the PS5’s sales to outdo those of the PS4 during its first full financial year, but a global semiconductor shortage might prevent that. Risk of Rain 2 has recently released the Artifact system, a way for players to modify their runs in unique ways. Forcing enemies to drop items, spawning double the enemies, or making every enemy an elite are examples of what is possible. Players can unlock these Artifacts by entering hidden codes scattered throughout the game in the Sky Meadow zone. Most come with some sort of tradeoff to prevent them from making the game objectively easier, but this isn’t always the case....
