Apex Legends is a very free game - but not everyone is aware of that, so much so, some people have paid as much as $29.99 for a title they believed was Respawn’s hit battle royale. To be fair, Apex Legends is probably worth that figure, maybe more. But it’s totally free and we love it that way; long may it continue. But certain gamers have been buying a VR game called Apex Construct from Steam in an apparent case of mistaken identity....

During the Tokyo Game Show today, SNK announced that it would be porting last year’s excellent Samurai Shodown reboot to the Xbox Series S and X this winter. This reveal was meet with a new trailer, but it tells us absolutely nothing about what this new port will have. Considering that the PC, PS4 Pro, and Xbox One X versions of the game run at native 4K resolution with 60 fps playback, I can’t imagine that is what will be new here....

According to industry insider Shinobi602, development of the now-cancelled Scalebound was so taxing that director Hideki Kamiya had to take time off for mental health concerns. Anticipation had been steadily brewing for Scalebound after its exciting reveal at Microsoft’s E3 keynote presentation three years ago, but all those dreams of playing around in a fantastical world filled with dragons and Sorcerian-style monsters suddenly came crashing down on January 9, 2017, when Microsoft officially cancelled Scalebound....

Over the last week or so there has been a debate surrounding From Software’s new game Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice and whether it needs an easy mode. Arguments were compelling on both sides, but given From Software’s track record with hard games, it’s unlikely any changes will be made. Asa Butterfield, best known for playing Otis Milburn in the Netflix comedy Sex Education, has signed on to Team Liquid, a leading professional gaming organization established in 2000. Although the company has not specified what the 23-year-old British actor will be doing for them, Butterfield has previously competed in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Butterfield has also been listed with the Panda Global esports organization since 2019, under the gamer tag Stimpy....

An EA shareholder is urging other investors to block an executive pay bump at the company’s next annual meeting, writing that EA has an overpay “addiction.” Times are tough out there, but you wouldn’t know it if you were an EA executive. The company’s proposed “say-on-pay” measure would let executives pay themselves basically whatever they want while EA lays off hundreds of employees. Two execs in particular are set to take home multi-million dollar bonuses unless shareholders vote “no” on the proposal....

On its official PlayStation account on Twitter, Sony has asked fans for feedback on the recent changes made to Parties on PS4. The modifications to the system were introduced during a PS4 firmware update 8.00. The change was anticipated by PlayStation Senior Director of Global Content Communications Sid Shuman, who stated in a recent video that Sony wants Parties to become “bigger than just voice chat” by bringing messages, media shares, and parties into the same space....

U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping are set to continue trade negotiations this week following the world figures’ agreement to do so at the G20 Osaka Summit 2019. As it stands, it is unclear as to what will come of these negotiations, but Trump did delay his proposed video game tariffs on China as long as negotiations were ongoing. Square Enix has unveiled plans for a new IP, codenamed Project Prelude Rune, which will be developed by the equally new Studio Istolia and headed by former Tales producer Hideo Baba. According to Kotaku, via an official release, Square Enix is currently working on a new role-playing series with newly established Studio Istolia. The studio will be lead by Hideo Baba, who was the producer of the Tales series for Namco Bandai since 2006....

Former Square Enix president Yoichi Wada takes to Facebook to decry Konami’s recent controversies, calling Kojima’s treatment by the company “cruel” and “bad for business.” At one time, Japanese developer Konami was best known for introducing series such as Castlevania, Metal Gear Solid, and Silent Hill to the world. These days, the company tends to only pop up in the news when its bridge-burning habits are being discussed.
