Despite repeated assurances from the Xbox team that its next-gen console, the Xbox Series X, will launch in 2020, some fans have remained skeptical. It has little to do with confidence in the Xbox team, but rather an acknowledgment of the severe impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the world and its lasting impact. The Resident Evil 3 remake is out in the wild today and letting everyone re-experience the horror that is Nemesis. It may not be the most faithful of recreations, but the game does have some neat bonuses going for it. One of those is the multiplayer component, Resident Evil Resistance. Riot Games has announced that it will start recording in-game voice chats in order to moderate and curb toxic behaviour. “We want all of our games to be safe and inclusive for everyone who chooses to play them,” said Riot via an announcement on its website. “We know disruptive behavior using our voice chat is a concern for a lot of players, and we’re committed to addressing it more effectively. In order for us to take action against players who use voice comms to harass others, use hate speech, or otherwise disrupt your experience, we need to know what those players are saying....

Most RPGs are stressful enough with all the decisions resting on players’ shoulders, whether those choices be during gameplay or the narrative. Some take it a step further by including permadeath, a mechanic where party members permanently remain eliminated after their health reaches zero. A variety of games offer varying degrees of permadeath, from no-nonsense deaths after losing all the party members’ health to more forgiving systems allowing the player to revive comrades within a small window....

As fans of Rockstar Games it’s hard not to see that there is a specific genre that the developer/publisher avoids. Sure, they don’t tend to deliver the same types of games, but typically they do stick to a certain perspective. In fact, Rockstar themselves have come out to say that they are intentionally avoiding the first person shooter genre because it too closely reflects what their competition is doing. Modern Warfare 3 and Battlefield 3 — the two hottest titles of the fall — are certainly taking full advantage of that sub-genre, and, as such, Rockstar Games was to keep away from those types of games as much as possible....
